Tamás Major

violin concert master

Tamás Major graduated in 1981 from the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where his professors included József Szász (violin) and György Kurtág (chamber music). He was concert master of the Academy's Symphonic Orchestra with which he won 2nd prize at the International Karajan Competition in 1979. As a violinist he won 2nd prize in 1980 at the Hubay Competition in Budapest. Between 1981 and 1983 he was concert master of the Toscanini Symphonic Orchestra of Parma, Italy. He is actually concert master of the Swiss Italian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Lugano. Tamás Major has been since 1984 concert master of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He is also an active chamber  musician and has participated in many radio and television programmes and recording projects.
