One of the world’s leading violinists, Julia Fischer is a versatile musician known for her extraordinary talent as a concert pianist, chamber musician and violin teacher. Julia received her first violin and piano lessons at a very young age and at the age of 9 began studying with renowned violin professor Ana Chumachenco, later becoming her successor. Winning first prize at the 1995 international Yehudi Menuhin Competition was an early milestone in her career and has since performed with top orchestras and conductors worldwide.
Highlights of the past season include concerts with the Bayerisches Staatsorchester under Kirill Petrenko at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, New York’s Carnegie Hall and a residency with both the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Philippe Jordan. This season, Julia appears in concert with the London Philharmonic and Berlin Radio Symphony with Vladimir Jurowski, Vienna Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic with Philippe Jordan, Chicago Symphony under Riccardo Muti, Orchestre National de France with Emmanuel Krivine and Bamberg Symphony under Jakub Hrůša. She will also tour Europe with the Cleveland Orchestra and Franz Welser-Möst.
In 2011, Julia founded her own Quartet with Alexander Sitkovetsky, Nils Mönkemeyer and Benjamin Nyffenegger. She debuted as a concert pianist at the Alte Oper Frankfurt in 2010, performing both the Grieg Piano Concerto and Saint-Saëns’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in the very same evening.
She has released numerous critically acclaimed recordings; first on the Pentatone label and later with Decca. Breaking new grounds in the classical music market, she has since launched her own music platform, the JF CLUB, offering exclusive audio and video footage, previews of her new recordings as well as personal insight into music and her work. She holds a number of awards including the Federal Cross of Merit, Gramophone Award and the German Culture Prize. She plays violins by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini (1742) and Phillipp Augustin (2018).
