Péter Háry

cello

Péter Háry was born in 1986 in Salgótarján. He started playing the cello at 7 years old, with Erzsébet Farkas. In 2000 he went to study at the Szent István Király Secondary School of Music in Budapest, first under Tibor Párkányi and later Anikó Sabján. In 2004, while still at secondary school, he won third prize at the 8th János Starker Hungarian Cello Competition in Kecskemét, and won the Ottó Kertész Memorial Competition in Budapest. In 2005, he was admitted to the Liszt Academy, where his teacher was Tamás Koó. He remained a member of the King St. Stephen Symphony Orchestra (today the Zugló Philharmonic) throughout his years at the Academy, and between 2005 and 2015 he was their principal cellist (except when other duties called, such as from 2008-2011 when he played for the Ernő Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra in Budafok). In 2010, he spent one semester on the Erasmus programme in Frankfurt with László Fenyő. He received his cellist’s degree in 2011. He is a second-year doctoral student at the Liszt Academy, and since 2015 he has been the principal cellist to the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. He has regularly been a supporting player to the Budapest Festival Orchestra since 2012.
