Christel Loetzsch

mezzo-soprano

Christel Loetzsch graduated from “Musikgymnasium” in Karlsruhe, after which she studied first singing at the University of Music “Franz Liszt” Weimar and continued her studies at the Conservatory “Giuseppe Verdi” in Milan, Italy from October 2010. She passed her concert exam with Prof. Carola Guber at the University "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig in spring 2018.

In summer 2012 Christel Loetzsch made her debut in a new production by Franco Zeffirelli as Zerlina (Don Giovanni) in the Arena di Verona under the direction of Daniel Oren.

In the summer of 2013 she made her debut at the San Francisco Opera with great success in the role of Dorabella (Così fan tutte) under the direction of Nicola Luisotti.

For two seasons 2012–13 and 2013–14, Christel Loetzsch was a member of “Junges Ensemble” at the Semperoper Dresden. There she made her debut in the roles of Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel ), Rosina (The Barber of Seville), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Oberto (Alcina) and in new productions of the operas Simon Boccanegra, L'Impresario delle Canarie and Moskau, Tscherjomuschki, worked with directors like Axel Köhler, Christine Mielitz and was able to gain experience among conductors such as Christian Thielemann, Omer Meir Wellber and Constantin Trinks.

For the 2015–16 season, Christel Loetzsch joined the ensemble of Theater & Philharmonie Thüringen in Gera / Altenburg with numerous successful role debuts, including Octavian (Rosenkavalier), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Ljuboff (Masepa/ Tchaikovsky), Leokadja Begbick (Mahagonny).

In 2019 she sang her first Wagner role, Fricka in the “Ring of the Nibelungen” by Richard Wagner at the Landestheater Niederbayern.

In summer 2019, she made her house debut at the opera house La Monnaie de Munt in Brussels in the part of Witch in Macbeth, a world premiere by Pascal Dusapin.

In November 2020 she will sing Penthesilea in “Penthesilea” by Pascal Dusapin at the Philharmonie in Paris with orchestre de Paris, followed by role debuts at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence in 2022. She will also sing the role of Floßhilde in Rheingold and Götterdämmerung by Richard Wagner in the Philharmonie in Dresden under Marek Janowski in 2022.
She received important impulses in master classes and lessons with KS Prof. Brigitte Fassbaender, Dame Gwyneth Jones, Manfred Jung and Catherine Foster.

She is the holder of the Richard-Wagner scholarship of the city of Weimar, the Carl-Müllerhartung scholarship and the scholarship of the Cantilena singing competition of the Young Musicians Foundation Bayreuth.
