Described as “stunning from start to finish” by Opera Magazine and praised for his “powerful” and “resonant” voice with a “beautiful bronze tone” (Bachtrack), German bass-baritone Andreas Wolf is internationally recognized as one of the leading interpreters of the Baroque and Classical repertoire.
Equally at home on opera and concert stages, he is in high demand across Europe and beyond. The 2025–26 season will see Mr. Wolf returning to the Grand Théâtre de Genève to sing the title role in Rameau’s Castor et Pollux and to make his house debut at the Opéra de Paris as the title character in Antonia Bembo’s Ercole Amante. He also reprises Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes at Teatro alla Scala in Milan and in São Paulo, as well as Lully’s Atys at the Opéra Royal de Versailles—both under the baton of Leonardo García Alarcón with Cappella Mediterranea. On the concert stage, highlights include Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Handel’s Messiah and King Arthur with Le Concert Spirituel, Handel’s Athalia with the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra and Ton Koopman, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium with both Les Arts Florissants under William Christie and the Dresdner Kreuzchor, as well as the Matthäus-Passion with the Rotterdam Philharmonic.
Andreas Wolf has performed on the stages of leading opera houses such as Teatro Real Madrid, Semperoper Dresden, La Monnaie Brussels, Bayrische Staatsoper München, Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Opera national du Rhin Strasbourg, Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Grand Théâtre de Genève and Oper Stuttgart. He is a frequent guest at major festivals including the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Bregenzer Festpiele, Innsbrucker Festwochen, Wiener Festwochen and Festival de Beaune. His operatic repertoire includes Figaro/Le Nozze di Figaro, Leporello/Don Giovanni, Papageno/Die Zauberflöte, Guglielmo/Cosi fan tutte, Jupiter/Platée, Aeneas/Dido and Aeneas, Zuniga/Carmen, Orbazzano/Tancredi, Falke/Die Fledermaus, Nanni/L’infedelta delusa and Eremit/Der Freischütz.
His extensive concert repertoire spans from the sacred masterpieces of Bach and Handel to works by Haydn, Beethoven, Schubert and Berlioz, extending into the 20th century with music by Igor Stravinsky and Frank Martin.
Mr. Wolf maintains close artistic partnerships with Leonardo García Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea, as well as with Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. He has also collaborated with esteemed conductors such as René Jacobs, Andrea Marcon, Raphaël Pichon, Vladimir Jurowski, Peter Dijkstra, Jérémie Rhorer, Ivor Bolton, Ingo Metzmacher, and Vasily Petrenko. He has performed with ensembles like Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Orchestre National de Radio France, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, Rundfunksinfonieorchester Berlin, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Concerto Köln, RIAS Kammerchor, Collegium 1704, Le Concert Spirituel, La Cetra, Il Pomo d’Oro, Het Residentie Orkest, Concert de la Loge, MDR Sinfonieorchester and Hamburger Sinfoniker.
His diverse discography includes C.P.E. Bach’s Die Auferstehung und Himmelfahrt Jesu with the Vlaams Radiokoor (Passacaille), Handel’s Semele with Leonardo García Alarcón (Ricercar), Bach’s Messe in h moll with the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks and Peter Dijkstra (BR Klassik), Berlioz’ Messe Solennelle and Händel’s Messias (Alpha), Händel’s Serse (Chaconne), Johann Ludwig’s Trauermusik, Handel’s Ode for the Birthday of Queen Anne, both with Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Bach cantatas with the Freiburger Barockorchester and Carolyn Sampson – all for Harmonia Mundi.
Since 2023 Andreas Wolf holds the position of Professorr of Voice at HEM Genève.
