Fischer Iván and the Budapest Festival Orchestra are once again treating their audience to a spectacular open-air concert. On September 12 at 6:30 pm, Heroes’ Square will come alive with music and magic. Enchanting, fairytale-like melodies await children, teenagers and adults alike – and for the first time, the BFZ Children’s Choir will also take the stage. Let’s kick off the new school year and the new season with a huge celebration of joy – come to Heroes’ Square, everyone who believes in the importance of culture and music!
The Budapest Festival Orchestra’s newly formed Children’s Choir will make its public debut with Arvo Pärt’s Summer Waltz. Listening to this cheerful piece, which evokes the most beautiful side of the season, we can almost instantly find ourselves in a flower-filled meadow, surrounded by dragonflies, bees, crickets and fireflies. **(Click here to see how the story of the BFO Children’s Choir began.)
The concert will also feature Schubert’s “Unfinished” Symphony, which audiences at the Salzburg and Lucerne festivals had the chance to hear from the orchestra this summer. Although we call it “unfinished”, the work forms a complete whole in its two completed movements. It was premiered almost forty years after the composer’s death and has since become one of the most frequently performed works in the classical music repertoire. The event will conclude with a selection from Prokofiev’s Cinderella Suite, transporting the audience into a magical fairytale world of glass slippers, a pumpkin carriage and dwarfs emerging from a clock.
Iván Fischer, Music Director of the Festival Orchestra, has a message for the audience: “Please bring your children to Heroes’ Square this year, too! We’ll be playing for them as well. There will be a story, fairytale-like music, and children’s voices, too. Bring the whole family!”
This year, the orchestra will once again prepare several thousand free paper chairs, which anyone can take home after the concert – and even have signed by conductor Iván Fischer.
