We will begin with music by the wonderful Czech composer, Erwin Schulhoff whose career was tragically cut short when he died in a concentration camp in Germany in 1942. This piece is a collection of five dances that are like a homage to the Baroque dance suite. Originally for string quartet we will perform this piece as a chamber orchestra. We close the first half with Johann Georg Albrechtsberger’s Trombone concerto, one of his well-known pieces. He, a mentor of Beethoven and many others, also gives us a chance to dance. We look forward to welcoming the wonderful Attila Sztán as our soloist.

Handel's Concerto Grosso, Opus 6/7, a piece I personally adore, brings out not only the dance aspect but an incredibly intimate side of his personality in the slow movement, the heart of the piece, like a flowing lament! And last but not least, Tchaikovsky's most loved pieces – the Serenade for strings – a piece that has so much natural dance and flow. This comes as no surprise, since the composer himself was so closely associated with the world of ballet.
