Since his spectacular debut at the Richard Wagner Bayreuth Festival 1997 as Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger, Robert Dean Smith is singing in the world’s leading opera houses and concert halls. An acclaimed interpreter of dramatic and Heldentenor roles, his engagements in theaters and concert halls around the world with the conductors Mehta, Pappano, Thielemann, Muti, Barenboim, Sawallisch, Boulez, von Dohnanyi, Haitink, Nagano and Gatti, confirm his status as one of today's most renowned singers. At Bayreuth he has sung the title role of Tristan, Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger, the title role of Lohengrin, and Siegmund in Die Walküre. He has also performed in venues like the Vienna State Opera (Tristan, Manon Lescaut, Meistersinger, Fidelio), La Scala Milan (Lohengrin, Fidelio, Tannhäuser) and Metropolitan Opera New York (Tristan, Ariadne auf Naxos, Madama Butterfly, Tosca). He has performed in concert with excellent orchestras including Royal Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam (Das Lied von der Erde, Kodaly's Psalmus Hungaricus, Beethoven 9th, Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex), the London Symphony Orchestra (The Dream of Gerontius by Elgar) and the Philadelphia Orchestra (Missa Solemnis by Beethoven).
