Gyöngyvér Oláh:

She was born in 1968 in Miskolc (Eastern Hungary). Having obtained her diploma at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where her professor was Vilmos Szabadi, she spent a year at the Academy of the European Mozart Foundation in Prague, later, as first violinist of the Dohnányi String Quartet, a year in 1996-1997 in Lyon, France, to pursue postgraduate studies. She started to play in the Budapest Festival Orchestra in 1994, since 1997 she has been member of the BFO. She has won several prizes at different national and international competitions, both as solo violinist and with the Danubius String Quartet.

György Kertész:

Born in 1963 in Budapest in a musical family (his father, Ottó Kertész was cellist of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra), he started to learn the violincello at the age of six. Between 1981 and 1986 he pursued his studies at the Franz Liszt Music Academy of Budapest, in 1986-87 in the Postgraduate School of the same institution. In 1983 he participated in János Starker's master class. In 1986 he won 1st prize at the János Popper Violincello Competition. Between 1987 and 1992 he was member of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. Since 1992 he has been member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2003 and 2004 he won the Sándor Végh Competition of BFO musicians.

Gabriella Pivon:

Ms. Pivon was born in 1968-ban and started to learn music in Abony and later in Szeged. In 1986 she won first prize at the national woodwind competition at Győr and was immidiately admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. Between 1988-1990 she was first flute of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra and from 1990 of the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio. She participated in different productions of the Budapest Festival Orchestra from 1990 and became in 1992 permanent member of the BFO.

Zsuzsa Szlávik :

Born in 1970 in Budapest, Ms.Szlávik started to play the violin at the age of five. In 1980 she obtained first prize at the János Koncz National Competition. In 1981 she was admitted to the preparatory school of the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest where her professors included Miklós Szenthelyi, Dénes Kovács and Ferenc Rados. Having obtained her diploma in 1993, she attended master classes of Dénes Zsigmondy.

József Rácz:

Born in 1980 in Jászberény (Eastern Hungary), he began to play the violin at the age of seven. In 1994 he was admitted to the Kodály Musical Secondary School of Kecskemét, in 1998 to the Franz Liszt Music Academy of Budapest, where his teachers were Mária Zs.Szabó and Leila Rásonyi. In 2000 he won 3rd Prize at the National Bach Competition. Since 1999 he has been regulary playing in the Weiner-Szász Chamber Symphony Orchestra. He attended master classes of Dénes Zsigmondy, György Pauk, Lóránd Fenyves, Imre Rohmann and Ferenc Rados. Following a successful audition, in October 2003 he became member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra.

Ákos Ács:

He was born in 1969 in Tatabánya, Hungary, where he took his first lessons of music. Having completed his studies at the Béla Bartók Music Conservatory, he obtained his diploma in 1992 at the Franz Liszt Music Academy where his teacher was Tibor Dittrich. In the same year he obtained a scholarship from the Budapest Festival Orchestra. A year later he became regular member of the BFO. Since 1999 he has been leader of the clarinet section. Mr.Ács is also active as a chamber musician and has been the soloist of several symphonic concerts of the BFO. In February, 2001, under the baton of Gérard Korsten, he played Carl Stamitz's "Darmstadt" clarinet concerto, in March 2005 under the baton of Hugh Wolff Mozart's clarinet concerto. He is the soloist of the latest CD of the BFO released by the Channel Classics label, playing Movement No.2. of Weber's Clarinet Concerto in F minor.

Bence Asztalos:

He was born in 1973 to a family of musical traditions. He won several prizes at the János Koncz National Violin Competition and obtained his diploma at the Liszt Academy of Budapest in 1996. He participated in master classes with Pierre Amoyal and Loránd Fenyves, as well as in the Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been playing in the Festival Orchestra since 1994.

Balázs Tóth:

He was born in 1986 in Balassagyarmat. He started playing the trumpet as his father’s student in his home town. From 2001 to 2005 he was a student of Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music, his teacher was Attila Simon. In 2005 he passed into the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music where first he studied with Zoltán Szűcs then with Tamás Velenczei. He won several competitions nation- and worldwide. From 2008 he regulary plays with the Budapest Festival Orchestra. He was one of the winners of the Sándor Végh Competition of the BFO in 2008.

Lajos Dvorák:

Lajos Dvorák was born in 1964 in Budapest. He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where his violincello professor was László Mező. Between 1988 and 1992 he played in the orchestra of the Hungarian National Opera House, since 1992 he has been member of the violincello section of the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Founder and artistic leader of the Grassalkovich String Quartet, he performs regularly in Hungary and abroad.

Sándor Szilvágyi:

He was born in Budapest, in 1964. He started to learn to play the guitar in 1979, first alone, between 1985 and 1988 with Zoltán Tokos at the Debrecen Faculty of the Franz Liszt Music Academy. Later he continued his studies in Vienna with Walter Würdinger. He was assistant professor of the Debrecen Faculty of the Liszt Academy between 1990 and 1997, and has been teaching since 1996 in the Béla Bartók Music Secondary School. In addition to an active concert career in Hungary, he has performed in Croatia, Slovakia, Austria, Germany, Spain and Great Britain. He is a frequent participant of concerts of the Componsensamble and Intermoduláció Chamber Groups.




The crowning moment of the evening was left to Dvorák and the Hungarians` superbly passionate rendering of the 7th Symphony. Fischer was restrained on the conductor`s podium, but these musicians did not need further incitement - the music is in their blood.
