The BFOreaches out! is a gem in the newer traditions of the BFO. When holding concerts outside of Budapest the orchestra „occupies” the town hosting the concert and takes music from door to door. During the first season of the programme, the musicians of the orchestra captured Pécs, Kaposvár and Szombathely.
The Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer want young and talented Hungarian music lovers and young people connected to music to turn towards playing music with even more enthusiasm and skill. The initiative also offers a possibility for the orchestra to discover exceptional talents around the country.
In preparing the programmes, the BFO collaborates with the Hungarian Association of Music Schools, local philharmonic orchestras, conservatories and music schools. The BFO reaches out! programme can also include other short concerts in public spaces, public buildings, schools and elderly homes of the towns and cities. The full-day programme in Pécs included sites such as the Baptist nursing home and the main Post Office, as well as the municipal maternity ward, where young mothers who joined the audience could listen to live music.
It is never too early to start music education! Every single age-group of the towns visited were addressed – the most important being, of course, children aged from eight to eighteen who study music, who were perhaps given some longterm stimulation and encouragement by meeting in person with the artists of the orchestra: choosing music for a career in life is a good choice.
