UNFINISHED

UNFINISHED

The first 40 years have been spectacular – but our story is really just beginning. Schubert’s Exceptional Unfinished Symphony with the BFO and Iván Fischer.

The Budapest Festival Orchestra premiered Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9, both unfinished, on February 28, 2014, at Müpa Budapest. The manuscript of Schubert’s piece was lost, and turned up only in 1865, well after the composer’s death. The two finished movements premiered then. Arte and Mezzo, the two most prominent classical music television channels, partnered with the BFO to produce the recordings of the two unfinished masterpieces. Market competition is one thing – and exceptional performances are another.
