Latest recording of the Bartók New Series and the Budapest Festival Orchestra recognised by prominent British and Luxembourg magazines

The latest recording of the Bartók New Series was awarded the Supersonic prize of the Luxembourg Pizzicato magazine in March – Máté Hollós, managing director of Hungaroton, the publisher of the series, told MTI. In the recording, the two sonatas for violin and piano were performed by Barnabás Kelemen and Zoltán Kocsis, while the Sonata for Solo Violin is also included. This disc is the tenth SACD (super audio CD) of the series recognised by the Luxembourg magazine.

The April edition of the British BBC Music Magazine ranks the concert to be given by the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO) and Ivan Fischer in the Symphony Hall of Birmingham on 26 April the second of twenty must-see classical musical events of the month. The concert programme includes Bartók’s Concerto and Brahms’ Symphony No 4 – said Júlia Váradi, the orchestra’s communication manager, to MTI.

The thematic compilation of Esquire magazine presented the best classical ensembles of the world. First on the list was the Berlin Philharmonic, second was the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, while the Budapest Festival Orchestra ranked third. This meant that the BFO overtook the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, ranked fourth, and the Staatskapelle Dresden, placed fifth.
