About the program

The Budapest Festival Orchestra has announced its traditional, biennial Sándor Végh Competition. The concert series provides the musicians of the BFO with an opportunity to give prominence to their individual abilities before a prestigious jury by performing a composition of their own choice. The stakes are high: the winners will be featured as the soloists of next season’s Haydn–Mozart Plus series.

The semi-finals and the final take place at the Selmeci Street Rehearsal Hall between 29 and 31 October. This year’s jury comprises conductor Iván Fischer, musical director of the BFO; violist Tamás Major, bassoonist György Lakatos, a prominent actor of the contemporary music scene; András Vass, conductor of the Pannon Philharmonic and Gergely Dubóczky, conductor.

The competition is open to the public, and audience votes will be much appreciated. Semi-finals are on Thursday between 5 and 6.30 pm and on Friday between 10 am and 5 pm, while the Final will start on Saturday at 3 pm. To register, send an email to rendeles@bfz.hu, or call Orsolya Bagi at +36 1489-4332.
