About the program

Buenos Aires is an important stop-off on our South American tour. The Festival Orchestra will be performing in the Teatro Colón Opera House; one of the most beautiful venues in the world, it has some of the best acoustics found anywhere. The Opera House, located at the heart of the Argentinian capital, opened in 1908 to a performance of Verdi’s Aida. Its enormous horseshoe-shaped auditorium, built along the lines of Classicist Italian and French opera houses, provides almost 2500 seats and 500 standing places. The Teatro Colón ranks among the most important music centres of the Americas. Toscanini was a regular here, and this is the place to where Erich Kleiber and Fritz Busch fled from the Nazis. The orchestra will perform two different programmes on consecutive evenings.

On June 27th, with the soprano soloist Miah Persson, the Festival Orchestra will be performing works by Bartók, Richard Strauss and Mahler.
