About the program

The first destination on our South American tour is Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. Our opening concert will be held at the National Auditorium del Sodre, which was opened in 2009. The original National Auditorium del Sodre was inaugurated in 1931, and for a long time was the center of the local classical music before the main central hall burned down in 1971. 14 years later the government called for an international public tender to rebuild the Auditorium. Although the construction work lasted for another 25 years, the current institution is a world-class concert hall that houses several of Uruguay’s best orchestras and choirs.

Our Montevideo concert will include works by Prokofiev, Ravel and Brahms, as well as featuring a wonderful pianist, and long-time friend of the Festival Orchestra, Alexander Toradze.
