Haydn-Mozart Plus

Haydn-Mozart Plus

The concerts held in the large hall of the renovated Academy of Music – feature a major Viennese classic along with pieces of music mostly from the Romantic period, which in terms of ambience and/or music history are very close or fit in well with the classic Viennese work. The conductor of these concerts is Gábor Takács-Nagy.

This series is a long-standing and integral part of the Festival Orchestra’s seasons. The conductors used to alternate at these concerts, but for a few years now it has always been the BFO’s first guest conductor, Gábor Takács-Nagy that has led these special evenings. The concerts feature a major Viennese classic along with pieces of music mostly from the Romantic period, which in terms of ambience and/or music history are very close or fit in well with the classic Viennese work.

This programme provides a rich and lasting experience for those seeking eternal values in the concert halls – i.e. the old and new audiences of the Festival Orchestra.

If we take a closer look, the debut concert given thirty years ago would ultimately fit harmoniously into this series: Glinka’s overture was followed by Mozart’s “Great” Symphony in G minor, then the Adagietto movement of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony – which leads its own life in concert halls – Brahms’ First Hungarian Dance and finally Strauss’ “Pleasure Train” polka.
