New York visits by Iván Fischer—perhaps the most creative conductor of standard repertory around—and his splendid ensemble are always notable.

This program combines elements of Romanticism and jazz, with Shostakovich’s “Jazz Suite” and Bernstein’s lyrical “Serenade” (with the violinist Liza Ferschtman) followed by Rachmaninoff’s mighty Second Symphony.
