Rodolphe Briand

He began his career as an actor/singer and director of a theater company («Les Galas Panique»). He took part in many shows at the Festival d’Avignon and in different Parisian theaters, such as: How Much is your Iron ? by Brecht at the Festival des Marais, La Cagnotte by Labiche, La Fausse Suivante by Marivaux at the Comédie Française, Le Bébé de Monsieur Laurent by Roland Topor… At the same time, he appeared in several musicals: Le Tour du Monde en 80 jours, Cats, Les Misérables, Kiss me Kate…
In 1994, Rodolphe Briand began a career in opera by taking voice lessons with J.P. Blivet, then got into the Ecole d’Art Lyrique and the Centre de Formation Lyrique de l’Opéra National de Paris. In 1997, he was winner of the Concours International de Marseille.
In april 1999, Rodolphe Briand was given the role of Falsacappa in Les Brigands by Offenbach in Jérôme Deschamps’ production in Bordeaux and in Nancy, and then the role of Sancho in The Man of la Mancha by Mitch Leigh at the Opéra de Liège (alongside José Van Dam’s Don Quichotte), Reims and Avignon.
Rodolphe Briand also sang in the production of Quatorze Juillet directed by Jérôme Savary at the Opéra de Montpellier. One may have heard him too in Chantons sous la Pluie in Paris and Avignon, Madama Butterfly (Goro) in Tours, La Périchole in Liège and Toulon, Manon Lescaut at the Grand Theater of Geneva, Turandot (Altoum) at the Opéra du Rhin and in Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio) in Vichy and in Massy.
He has most notably appeared in Les Contes d’Hoffmann (the four Valets) at the Opéra National du Rhin, at the Capitole de Toulouse and at the Opéra National de Paris, Le Nozze di Figaro (Curzio) at the Opéra de Paris-Bastille and La Grande Duchesse de Gérolstein (Fritz) at the Opéra National du Rhin, Falstaff (Bardolfo) in Bordeaux, at the Opéra national du Rhin and in Monte Carlo, Le Nozze di Figaro (Basilio) in Vichy and at the Capitole de Toulouse, Madama Butterfly (Goro) in Avignon.
He sang the Remendado in Carmen (under Michel Plasson’s direction) at the Scala de Milan, that invited him straight after to appear as the four valets in the Contes d’Hoffmann in october 2004.
He recently sang Guillot de Morfontaine in Manon with the Bayerischer Rundfunkorchester, at the Scala in Milan, at the Teatro Massimo de Palerme and in Nantes, Le Nègre des Lumières and La Forza del Destino (Trabucco) in Avignon and La Grande duchesse (Fritz) at the Opéra de Nice, Tom Jones in Lausanne, Tosca the title role of Fenelon’s Jean-Jacques Rousseau at the Grand Theater of Geneva, La Belle Hélène (Ménélas) at the Opéra national du Rhin, in Montpellier and Bordeaux, Le Roi Pétaud by Delibes (title role) on tour with the company Les Brigands, Andrea Chénier (Incredibile) at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, La Vie Parisienne in Liège, La Forza del destino at the Opéra de Paris, Falstaff (Bardolfo) in Lausanne, Carmen in Venice…
