Péter Szabó was born in 1963 in Transylvania in a family of musicians. First he studied at the Music Academy of Cluj-Napoca (Romania) then later at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest as a student of László Mező, Ferenc Rados and György Kurtág. He was winner at several music competitions – the Romanian National Competition and the International Instrumental Competition in Markneukirchen – and was awarded by the International Association of Musicologists. Both as a soloist and as a chamber musician he performs in several countries of Europe, in the USA, in the Far East, and in South-America. Zoltán Kocsis, Till Fellner and Yuri Bashmet are among his partners. He has made several recordings for Hungaroton, Naxos and EMI. Hwe is solo violoncellist of the Budapest Festival Orchestr. He was awarded the Liszt Prize in 2011.
