Internationally renowned Swedish soprano Miah Persson has worked all over the world as both recitalist and concert artist as well as on the operatic stage.
Following her great concert debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2003 with the Vienna Philharmonics under Pierre Boulez, Miah gave her opera debut there in 2004 as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier under Semyon Bychkov. Miah returned to Salzburg, where she had another great success, this time as Sifare in Mitridate under Marc Minkowski. In the 05/06 season, Miah made a highly celebrated debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, and sang Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte at the Glyndebourne Festival in 2006. She later sang further great performances of Mitridate at the Salzburg Festival and made her acclaimed debut at San Francisco Opera as Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, a role she also went on to sing for her Metropolitan Opera debut in 2009.
Career highlights include Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier, Gretel in Hansel und Gretel and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte at the Metropolitan Opera; Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and Zerlina in Don Giovanni at Covent Garden; Sifare in Mitridate and Fiordiligi at the Salzburg Festival; Fiordiligi, Sophie and Susanna at the Vienna State Opera; The Governess in The Turn of the Screw, Fiordiligi, Donna Elvira and Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress at the Glyndebourne Festival; Pamina in Die Zauberflote on a concert tour of Europe with the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin, conducted by Rene Jacobs; Fiordiligi at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Hamburgische Staatsoper, New National Theatre Tokyo and in concerts and for a Deutsche Grammophon recording at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, and the Countess in concerts of Figaro with the Budapest Festival Orchestra in Berlin and New York.
In concert she has also appeared with Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bayerischer Rundfunk Munich, the Accademia Santa Cecilia, Simon Bolivar Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel in Salzburg and for the Proms in London (televised and broadcast by the BBC), Mozart Concert Arias at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Mahler 2 with the New York Philharmonic, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Bach’s B Minor Mass at La Fenice, Mahler 2 and Mahler 4 with Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestras, Peer Gynt at the Grafenegg Festival and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, as well as recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, Vienna Konzerthaus, the Tonhalle Zurich.
Throughout her distinguished career Ms Persson has appeared at the Paris Opera, Vienna State Opera, Metropolitan Opera New York, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Berlin State Opera, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Frankfurt Opera, De Doelen hall Rotterdam, the New Zealand Festival, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Paris, Opera du Rhin in Strasbourg, Frankfurt Opera, New National Theatre Tokyo, Theater an der Wien at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona.
Miah has worked with numerous conductors including Bernard Haitink, Rene Jacobs, Sir Colin Davis, Vladamir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Ivor Bolton, Antonio Pappano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Pierre Boulez, Ivàn Fischer, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Sir Charles Mackerras, Gustavo Dudamel, Mariss Jansons, Vladimir Jurowski, Daniel Harding, Marc Minkowski and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Engagements in the 14/15 season and beyond include Pamina in Die Zauberflote in her return to the Metropolitan Opera New York, the title role in L’Incoronazione di Poppea at La Scala, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte in Stockholm and her return to the Liceu Barcelona as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. Ms Persson will perform Strauss’s Four Last Songs with Montreal Symphony Orchestra and with the Sao Paulo State Symphony; Brahms Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Barcelona; Mozart arias with the LA Philharmonic; The Seasons in Istanbul, a tour of South America with Budapest Festival Orchestra singing Mahler 4 and Strauss’s Four Last Songs, and her return to London’s Wigmore Hall.
Miah Persson’s recordings include Händel’s Rinaldo (as Almirena) under René Jacobs (Hmc), Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten with the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg under Ivor Bolton (Oehmsclassics), Bach: Magnificat with the Collegium Japan Orchestra (BIS), and John Fernström’s Songs of the sea with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra (BIS). Miah Persson can be heard as duet partner of Bryn Terfel in his in September 2006 released CD Tutto Mozart! Bryn Terfel sings concert and opera arias (Deutsche Grammophon). In November 2006 Mozart’s: Mitridate, Re di Ponto (Deutsche Grammophon) was released as a complete edition on DVD, produced by Salzburger Festspiele, with Musicens du Louvre and Marc Minkowski conducting. In March 2007 Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte the Glyndebourne Festival’s Nicholas Hytner production with Iván Fischer conducting, was released (Naxos). In January 2008 the Gesamtaufnahme of Haydn’s Schöpfung (in English) with the Gabrieli Consort & Players of London under Paul MCCreesh was released at Archiv Pro (Universal). In March 2008 the DVD of David McVicar’s production of Le Nozze di Figaro conducted by Antonio Pappano with Miah Persson as Susanna was published by the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Miah is also featured on the Opus Arte release of Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea recorded live at Liceu Barcelona in 2009.
