Szennai Kálmán

He was born in Budapest in 1973. He learned the piano and the horn at the Béla Bartók Secondary School of Music before becoming a student at the Musicology and Conducting Department of the Liszt Academy of Music. He obtained his conducting degree in 1996 under Ervin Lukács and Tamás Gál. After completing his studies, Géza Oberfrank hired Kálmán for the Hungarian State Opera, where he worked initially as a répétiteur and then as a conductor. Since then he has regularly conducted at the opera house. He has performed in Japan, Austria and Germany, has been a returning guest at the Operetta Theatre, he has conducted the Savaria Symphony Orchestra, the MÁV Orchestra and the Festival Orchestra, and is a permanent guest of the Jennersdorf and St. Margarethen Opera Festivals. He has received the Komor, Juventus and Pless Awards.
