Hevé Niquet

Not only trained as a pianist, organist, and harpsichordist, but also as a singer, composer, choir director and conductor, Hervé Niquet takes a researcher’s approach to the musical profession, seeking inspiration from the original sources in order to go beyond convention and habit. During his formative years, his work as singing coach at the Paris Opera with Rudolf Nureyev and Serge Lifar – who actively collaborated with ballet composers – brought him to reflect on authenticity in interpretation.

It was in this spirit that he created Le Concert Spirituel in 1987. He is also the Musical Director of Vlaams Radio Koor and First Guest Conductor of the Brussels Philharmonic. He has conducted and regularly conducts ensembles such as the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Orchestras of Montpellier, Lyon and the Orchestre National des Pays de la Loire, the Chamber Orchestra of Picardie, the Sinfonia Varsovia, and the Geneva Chamber Orchestra.

As a passionate opera lover, he has been invited to conduct at various productions (of the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Théâtre de La Monnaie, as well as the opera houses of Montpellier, Nancy, Basel, Nuremberg, Zagreb, etc.) with a wide range of directors, including Mariame Clément, Georges Lavaudant, Romeo Castellucci and Christoph Marthaler.

He is the current Artistic Director of the Saint-Riquier Festival in Picardie, France.

Hervé Niquet has been knighted into the French National Order of Merit and has also been named Officer of the French Order of Arts and Letters.
