Gulyás Emese

Emese Gulyás was born in Budapest in 1980. Her first violin teachers were Mrs Antal Skultéty and László Kóté. She graduated in the violin from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, where she was the student of István Kertész, Géza Hargitai and Sándor Devich. She has participated in master classes by György Kurtág and Dénes Zsigmondy, and won first prizes at both the National Weiner Chamber Music Competition in 2003 and an invitational competition by the Yamaha International Scholarship for Strings in 2004. She was a member of the Danubia Orchestra in Óbuda until 2008, and has performed regularly with the Erdődy Chamber Orchestra. In 2006 she was the soloist at a concert by the latter at the Budapest Spring Festival. Since 2008, she has been a regular participant in various productions by the Budapest Festival Orchestra. In 2014 she won a special prize at the Sándor Végh Competition for playing Baroque violin, and the same year she was awarded a doctorate in performing arts (DLA). Her son, Kristóf, was born in 2015.
